Mayor Buckhorn,
Currently much of Tampa's Economy is based on the automobile.  Road construction and maintenance are a major expense.  And, many dying Tampa businesses plug into the Car-centered economy through auto sales, repair, and servicing of cars.  Sadly, area hospitals, law firms and health rehabilitation facilities also contribute to the Car-centered economy, as auto accidents are a leading cause of injury and death.  How do you feel about shifting the City's focus from the Car to the Bike?

Prioritize bikes for Tampa Bay Growth.  Prioritizing bikes would help build strong neighborhoods that improve the quality of life for all our residents, which aligns with your Operation WIN.  Such an initiative would support students, the River Walk, City Parks, and
a more sustainable economy.  Ease of mobility offered by bikes and bike lanes would also assist in creating more jobs and help the less privileged to participate more actively in the economy.

Changing Tampa's focus to Bikes will also help to mitigate the burden placed on the environment caused by fuel emissions.  Tampa is ranked above the national average in miles driven per day.  Joe Cortwright from CEO's for Cities determined in his 2007 Green Dividend Report that the Tampa Bay area could save hundreds of millions of dollars annually if people would drive one less mile per day.  That's a significant impact on the economic, physical and environmental health of our community.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the
world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
